The clinical trial department at The Skin Centre is overseen by Dermatologist, Dr Michael Freeman. The department is lead by Research Manager, Carolyn Nicholls, and assisted by Nurse, Jodie Snell.
Dr Michael Freeman

Dr Michael Freeman is the principal Dermatologist at The Skin Centre, specialising in Cosmetic and Laser Dermatology. Originally graduating from The University of Queensland in 1979, he has more than 30 years’ experience in the medical field.
In addition to his position at The Skin Centre, Dr Freeman is the Director of Dermatology at the Gold Coast Hospital, a visiting Dermatologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, and is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Bond University.
While a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, he is also a member of the Skin and Cancer Foundation of Queensland and an international member of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr Freeman holds several more credits to his name, including lead investigator in more than a dozen clinical trials, and educator for other Dermatologists in the use of specialised lasers.
In his spare time, Dr Freeman is a passionate sailor.
Clinical Nurse Specialist / Research Manager / RN
Carolyn joined the team at The Skin Centre in 1999. She originally completed her nursing training at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and brings with her vast experience from many different health sectors. Since 2000 she has concentrated on establishing our Clinical Trial department. This allows new and developing drugs to be available as an option for patients with many different and difficult to treat Dermatological conditions. She is passionate about improving the lives of patients with chronic skin complaints and is abreast of all international knowledge and resources to achieve meaningful results.
Clinical Nurse / Research Assistant / RN
Jodie holds a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Griffith University and has experience in both clinical and surgical settings. She spent a large portion of her career at the Royal Marsden Hospital for Oncology in London, so she has a special interest in the treatment of cancer.
At The Skin Centre Jodie works along side Dr. Freeman in consultations with patients and assisting in surgical and laser procedures. Sometimes she can be found helping out in the trials department, and or undertaking small surgical procedures in theatre.
Outside of the Skin Centre Jodie has a keen interest in travel, and is often out and about with her beautiful young family.
