Microdermabrasion is a painless, non-invasive, rejuvenating treatment for the skin. Technicians use a hand-held diamond-tipped device, along with vacuum suction to cleanse the skin. The vacuum pressure and speed can be adjusted depending on the sensitivity and tolerance of the skin.

At The Skin Centre, we offer microdermabrasion as well as microhydrabrasion. This variation is the newest way to ensure you have the cleanest skin possible after treatment. The hydra element to your treatment is designed to complement the exfoliating aspect of the microdermabrasion. Ith cleans the skin using a system of water and aloe vera. The water cleans and aloe provides contact cooling and instant soothing. This is a winning combination for effectively cleaning and soothing the skin, leaving it smooth and fresh.

An added option for this treatment is to receive infusions after the microdermabrasion or microhydrabrasion. The Skin Centre carries the BLOC skin product range, and there are several serums we recommend for infusion therapy, depending on your goal (eg. reducing pigmentation or anti-ageing). Infusion appointments also receive a complimentary hand massage post-treatment. Please contact us for more information (07) 5597 7170. How does it work?

Microdermabrasion works by removing the top few layers of skin. This gently removes skin debris and cleanses your pores.

Microhydrabrasion uses the classic ‘push-pull’ suction action with water after treatment, to thoroughly clean the pores of any residual matter that may still be left. Some individuals have deeper pores than others, where the dirt, make-up etc will remain even after microdermabrasion, therefore the hydrabrasion will effectively clean the pores, leaving nothing foreign left on the skin.

What does it do?

The treatment is typically undertaken by individuals who want one or more of these outcomes:
1) reduce fine lines This treatment is a widely used method to exfoliate the skin. There is low risk and allows a rapid recovery compared to other more invasive resurfacing treatments such as dermabrasion, chemical peels and laser resurfacing.
2) reduce sun damage or age spots
3) for acne patients, to assist in cleansing the face
4) reduce enlarged pores
5) fade superficial scarring
6) facilitate the absorption of some topical medications (in specific cases).

The most common areas treated are primarily the face, but also the neck, chest, back and hands.

How long does it last and how effective is it?

The treatment itself will take between 30 - 60 minutes. This will vary depending on how many areas you focus on in the one session, and whether you elect to have serum infused as part of the treatment.

The effects of microdermabrasion are temporary, as the skin regenerates approximately once per month. This means for optimal results, a monthly treatment is recommended. This combined with diligent sun protection and applications of skin care products will give you the best possible results.
