Rhinophyma

Rhinophyma is the slow thickening of the skin on the nose. As the skin thickens it creates more prominent pores and vessels and makes the nose appear larger and bumpy. Similar changes can occur in elsewhere on the face including the forehead, cheeks and chin. The cause is not always known, but in some people it is linked to rosacea. Rhinophyma is often inappropriately associated with alcohol misuse, which is a myth that should be dispelled because of the social stigma attached to it. Treatment of rhinophyma can be both medical and procedural and your Dermatologist should be able to help you decide between the options available. Should you opt for procedural treatments, your Dermatologist can offer laser therapy.
