Tips for optimising your consultation

  • The Dermatologists we support recommend that their patients write a small list or even bullet point notes on their phone about the concern you wish to discuss with your doctor. It’s important to communicate your concerns or issues with your doctor in a clear and easy-to-understand way. This helps your doctor to address the priorities from a medical perspective. Having a bullet point list will help your doctor to focus on the priority items and may occasionally suggest a second visit to cover any points not addressed in your initial consult.

  • Some patients have multiple issues and concerns that are practically not possible for their practitioner to address in a single appointment. If you think this may be the case, then we suggest you ask our reception team about an extended appointment with your Dermatologist to suit your needs.

  • The Dermatologists operating from the practice see many patients each day and run to a fixed schedule, it’s therefore important that you’re on time for your appointment and leave ample time to complete any paperwork or navigate the hospital parking complex. We suggest arriving at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.

  • The Dermatologists we support suggest that their patients make time to do a skin self-assessment in the mirror at home. By familiarising yourself with your skin markings, you can best alert your doctor to any new or changes skin features which may be the first signs of concern.

  • Prior to your consultation, we encourage you to check with your referring doctor or our reception team that your referral has been received by our practice. If you have a paper copy, please ensure you bring this along with you on the day.
