Xanthelasma

Xanthelasma involves the deposition of cholesterol in plaques on the skin around the eyes. Most people will recognise them as raised yellow patches that grow bigger with time. Whilst they are occasionally associated with other systemic conditions, for most patients this is mainly a cosmetic complaint and cosmetic camouflage and no treatment is an option. For patient’s wanting more definitive therapies options include chemical peels and laser therapy. Please note, these lesions often recur so repeat treatment may be necessary.
